I have also been a kinship caregiver – acting as legal guardian for my young grandson when his mother couldn’t care for him – and have worked with children’s services case workers, psychologists, school counselors and other child advocates. This experience has given me an opportunity to learn quite a bit about the children’s court system and the law as it pertains to relatives of at-risk children. I write a bi-weekly column for a local newspaper having to do with some aspect of kinship caregiving.
