I am exceptional in the manner that I approach my work. My research is thorough and I am very picky about typographical, spelling and usage errors. I also have a somewhat different take on things than the average American, having bypassed the suburban lifestyle while breaking new ground as a woman working in traditionally male occupations within the entertainment industry. After retiring from audio engineering and production management to raise my son, I began to develop an extremely eclectic range of interests, from historical reenactment to instrument building, voiceover production to accounting. This led to an overwhelming burnout and I eventually had to accept the fact that just because I CAN do something doesn't mean I SHOULD. There aren't enough hours in a year to finish all the projects I'd started. So, it seemed best to write about them instead. Writing is a craft that takes you to the most places without leaving your computer!
My hands-on experience includes starting and running several home-based businesses, designing lights and sound for theatrical productions, driving and loading trucks, maintaining rental inventory and supervising crews in a warehouse at Walt Disney World (which I am not allowed to write about, sorry). Each of these things required me to develop a clear and concise writing style. I have experience in business communications, technical writing and process documentation, as well as grant research and writing. A few years ago I helped start a non-profit organization dedicated to providing more production and development opportunities for women playwrights in the southeast and I'm working on a script based on some stories told to me about espionage during the Vietnam War. I have built and maintained websites and done SEO. My husband is a truck driver and I drive a shuttle part-time, taking drivers to the airport after they drop off at the terminal. I hear lots of good stories (and a few boring ones). And it all has made me an exceptional writer.
