Being a successful copywriter, for me, requires discipline, knowledge, creativity, and great communication skills. When lacking any of these traits, a copywriter is sure to struggle in developing the necessary words and ideas to get a point across.
Handling multiple projects demands discipline. You can always find an excuse to put off a project or deadline until last minute. I make sure to work on a schedule and stick to it, remembering that both the client and my reputation are on the line. Knowledge and creativity seem to go hand in hand. Without a thorough knowledge of the topic being written about, creativity is sure to suffer. Most copywriters will tell you that doing an assignment about something they have knowledge of, is a much smoother and creative process. I enjoy covering a wide range of topics. From sports and relationships, to business, education and social media, my knowledge-base seems to grow in these areas while developing other interests as well. Finally, communication is also essential. While a good copywriter may see vivid descriptions of the world in his or her head, being able to communicate them is a whole other skill. I think communication is actually one of my strongest attributes. Without it, there is no way I would have any success in any of the writing ever done.
