Someone once said that you don't choose writing, but that it chooses you. All I know is that I must write.
My words come to me at inopportune times such as when I'm driving my car during insane traffic and while attending symphony concerts. The former can be dangerous, but I'm really not proud of the latter. It's just that drone of strings lulls me into a Zen state of semi-consciousness. (My ex-husband was always mad at me about this, since he would spend a small fortune on orchestra tickets just for me to sit there like a Buddhist monk. Just one reason why he's "my ex-husband.) I am an exceptional copywriter because I show, not tell, what I'm writing about. I make things dynamic. That's because I would much rather simply use a few well-placed action verbs than engage in flowery, long-winded passive voice full of meaningless adjectives. (I was highly influenced by Ernest Hemingway.) The passive voice makes for boring prose. If it's not interesting, no one will read it. What copywriter wants THAT to happen?? I prefer to write about anything having to do with education, non-profit social service organizations, and the English language in general. I also love linguistics and can wax poetic on phonetics. Somehow I don't think there's a huge need for that as a copywriter, but one never knows....
